Biography

Born in Hove, Sussex, England, I was educated in Norfolk in the 1960's. An Honours Degree in Fine Art at Leeds College of Art followed. Whilst keeping up my personal work, I embarked on a very rewarding teaching career lasting some 30 years, the last 25 years of it at a Kent Grammar School. Since giving up the day job in 2001, I have been fortunate to be able to paint full time. I am an 'on the spot' painter, first, making sketches and informative visual notes in small oils as work in its own right and also serving as resources for working up into larger pieces. My work takes me to the Sussex coast, the City of London and the Thames, and the North Norfolk coast amongst other places, and aims to reflect or react to the many sensations received over a period of time in the landscape when different events occur - flights of birds, noises, visiting people, changes of light and times of day. I live with my wife Vivienne in Tenterden, Kent. Our two children have flown the nest some years ago, and now have two each of their own.
